Puppies at 1 week of age

Puppies
have now almost doubled in weight, the smaller one has caught up with
"big sister" and both weight in the 10 - 11 oz range.
Their heads and bodies have started to fill out and they have started to
get a little pigment on their lips. They have not yet opened
their eyes and spend their days nursing and sleeping. They crawl
to find their mom using their front legs, but still keep their heads
down on the bedding surface while crawling. When sleeping they
generally sleep in a "pile" with each other, much like
pictured here, to sustain warmth. When "lost" from their
moms they will sometimes "squeek" -- perhaps nature's way of
letting mom know where they are.
