Puppies at 5 week of age

Puppies
now weight 25 oz. and 26 oz. They are now very active and
have started some serious playing with each other -- which includes
"batting" at you with their paws. They have become very curious
about everything as their senses start to develop. In each you can
already see a difference in personality -- one is more outgoing and the
other is more "stoic" and laid back. The pigment on their noses is
almost fully "filled in" and each of their toe pads have little spots of
black where the pigment is also developing there. They have now a
grown a considerable amount of hair and as can be seen from the picture
are taking on that "fluffy puppy look". Along with growing their coat
their eye lashes have become quite long. They are not yet weaned -- they
still prefer the food that mother has to offer. I have started
offering them some "puppy mush" -- a concoction of dry dog food soaked
and mushed, canned condensed milk, baby rice cereal and or some Gerber
baby meats. They have just started cutting teeth -- the first
teeth through are usually the baby canines. You can, however, see
the arch of the bite, so by this age should be able to get an idea of
what the adult bite will be. If a puppy is excessively undershot
or over shot evidence is there by this age -- these two puppies have
good bites at this age.
