Choosing A Groomer

Finding
a groomer for your Maltese is more than opening the yellow pages of your telephone book.
Ask your breeder for references as well as your veterinarian. Many veterinarians as well
as boarding kennels offer grooming services. Most important is that you find a groomer
than has experience working with coated breed dogs. Some groomers may specialize in a
certain type of dog. You do not want you Maltese to come home looking like a Terrier.
Services you should reasonably expect from your groomer will include brushing out the
coat, bath (including flea dip if required), blow dry, nails cut and filed, ears cleaned
and possibly putting your Maltese in a leisure (puppy) clip. See direction for this
earlier in this chapter. When you take you Maltese to the groomer be very specific in
instructions as to what you want to see in the results. And be realistic -- if your
Maltese is badly matted the groomer may have no choice but to give your dog a very short
clip.
